There is a Chinese saying that goes, “When a whale falls, life springs forth.” This refers to a natural phenomenon. After a whale dies, its carcass can provide energy and nutrients for many organisms. One life ends, but many others are born and thrive on it. This cycle of life and death fascinates me greatly. At the same time, it has also given me some inspiration for my research topic: after the death of some huge organisms, a civilization can gradually thrive on their remains. So what would such a civilization look like?
